After the resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples and promised them many things. Let’s take a look at what He promised them.
1. The Holy Spirit
Jesus promised His disciples that He would send the Holy Spirit to be with them always. This promise was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when they received the Holy Spirit in a powerful way.
2. Eternal Life
Jesus promised eternal life to His disciples, saying that whoever believes in Him will have everlasting life (John 3:16). This promise is available to all who believe in Him and accept Him as their Lord and Savior.
Jesus promised His disciples peace, saying “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.
I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27). This promise of peace is available to all who trust in Him.
Jesus promised His disciples power, saying “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). This promise was fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when they received power from on high.
Jesus promised His disciples love, saying “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.
Now remain in my love” (John 15:9). This promise of love is available to all who abide in Him.
Jesus promised His disciples joy, saying “I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:11). This promise of joy is available to all who follow Him.
7. His Return
Jesus promised His disciples that He would return one day, saying “Do not let your hearts be troubled.
You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:1-3).
Jesus made many promises to His disciples after His resurrection. These promises are available to all who believe in Him and accept Him as their Lord and Savior. As we trust in Him, we can experience the Holy Spirit, eternal life, peace, power, love, joy, and the hope of His return.
