What Did Jesus Promise the Disciples Before Ascending Into Heaven?

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, spent three years with his disciples during his ministry on earth. He taught them many things about God’s kingdom, performed miracles among them, and even gave his life for their salvation. Before ascending into heaven, Jesus made some promises to the disciples that they would carry with them throughout their lives.

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

One of the most significant promises that Jesus made to his disciples was the coming of the Holy Spirit. He told them in John 14:16-17, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always – the Spirit of truth.” This promise was fulfilled on Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and empowered them for ministry.

The Promise of Peace

Jesus also promised his disciples peace in John 14:27 when he said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you.

Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” This promise of peace would sustain them through difficult times and trials.

The Promise of Eternal Life

Jesus promised eternal life to his disciples in John 10:28 when he said, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand.” This promise gave his followers hope beyond this life and assurance that they would spend eternity with him in heaven.

The Promise of His Return

Before ascending into heaven, Jesus promised his disciples that he would return one day. In John 14:3 he said, “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” This promise gave them hope for a future reunion with their Lord and Savior.

The Promise of Authority

Before his ascension, Jesus also promised his disciples authority to carry on his work. In Matthew 28:18-20 he said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations…” This promise gave them the confidence to spread the gospel throughout the world.

The Conclusion

In conclusion, Jesus made many promises to his disciples before ascending into heaven. These promises provided them with hope, peace, and assurance as they carried on his work in the world. Today, we too can take comfort in these promises as we seek to follow Jesus and serve him faithfully.
