What Did Jesus Say to His Disciples After the Resurrection?

After the resurrection of Jesus, He appeared to His disciples on several occasions. Each time, He had a message for them that was meant to encourage, strengthen and guide them as they continued to spread the gospel.

First Appearance
On the first occasion that Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection, He greeted them with the words, “Peace be with you.” (John 20:19) This was a powerful message because the disciples were fearful and anxious after witnessing the crucifixion of their Lord. Jesus’ greeting was meant to calm their fears and reassure them that He was alive and with them.

Commissioning His Disciples
During one of His appearances, Jesus commissioned His disciples saying, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). This command is known as ‘The Great Commission’. It was a call to action for all Christians to go out into the world and share the good news of salvation with others.

Forgiveness
Jesus also spoke about forgiveness during one of His post-resurrection appearances. He told His disciples that if they forgive others when they sin against them, their Heavenly Father will also forgive them.

But if they do not forgive others, then their Heavenly Father will not forgive them (Matthew 6:14-15). This message emphasizes the importance of forgiveness in our Christian walk.

The Holy Spirit
In another appearance after the resurrection, Jesus promised His disciples that He would send them a helper – The Holy Spirit (John 15:26). This promise came true on Pentecost when The Holy Spirit descended on all believers who were gathered in Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit is our guide, comforter, and counselor who helps us in our walk with God.

In Conclusion

The messages that Jesus communicated to His disciples after His resurrection were intended to help them in their faith journey. These messages are still relevant today, and we can learn from them as we seek to follow Jesus.

We should take comfort in the fact that Jesus is with us always, and we should be encouraged by His call to action, forgiveness, and the promise of the Holy Spirit. Let us continue to spread the gospel as we wait for His return.
