What Did Jesus Tell His Disciples About His Second Coming?

When Jesus walked on earth, He had many followers who believed in Him and His teachings. Among these followers were twelve men whom Jesus chose to be His disciples. These twelve men were handpicked by Jesus to carry on His ministry after He was gone.

One of the most significant events that Jesus talked about with His disciples was His second coming. Jesus knew that He would not be on earth forever, and He wanted to prepare His disciples for what was to come.

Jesus told His disciples that no one knows the exact day or hour of His second coming, except for God the Father. In Matthew 24:36, Jesus said, “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.” This statement emphasized the importance of being prepared at all times because no one knows when Jesus will return.

Jesus also warned His disciples about false prophets and false messiahs who would try to deceive them. In Matthew 24:23-25, Jesus said, “At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’

or ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.”

To help prepare them for His second coming, Jesus encouraged His disciples to stay faithful and watchful. In Mark 13:32-37, Jesus said:

“But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but only the Father. Be on guard!

Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.. What I say to you I say to everyone: ‘Watch!'”

Jesus also spoke about how people would be judged when He returns. In Matthew 25:31-46, Jesus gave a parable of a shepherd separating his sheep from his goats.

The sheep represent those who have followed Jesus and done good works, while the goats represent those who have not. Jesus said that the sheep would inherit eternal life, while the goats would be punished.

In conclusion, Jesus gave His disciples several warnings and encouragements about His second coming. He emphasized the importance of being prepared at all times, being watchful for false prophets and false messiahs, staying faithful, and doing good works to inherit eternal life. As we wait for His return, let us heed Jesus’ words and live our lives in a way that honors Him.
