What Does It Mean for Jesus to Be Lord of Your Life?

As a Christian, you may have heard the phrase “Jesus is Lord” or “accept Jesus as Lord and Savior”. But what does it truly mean for Jesus to be the Lord of your life?

To understand this concept, we must first define what exactly a “Lord” is. In its simplest form, a lord is someone who has authority and power over others.

In ancient times, lords were rulers of land and people. They had complete control over their subjects and could make decisions that affected their lives.

In the case of Jesus, we acknowledge Him as our Lord because He has ultimate authority and power over our lives. When we accept Him as our Savior, we surrender ourselves to His will and purpose for us.

But what does that surrender look like? It means that we no longer prioritize our own desires and ambitions above His. We recognize that He knows what’s best for us, even if it doesn’t align with our personal plans.

Being a disciple of Jesus means following in His footsteps. He lived a life of servitude and sacrifice, putting the needs of others before His own. As His followers, we are called to do the same.

When we make Jesus the Lord of our lives, it also means that He becomes the center of our identity. We identify ourselves first and foremost as His disciples rather than by any other title or label.

This surrender is not something that happens overnight. It’s an ongoing process of transformation where we allow God to work in us and through us to become more like Christ.

So how can we practically apply this concept in our daily lives? Here are some ways:

Prayer: Make time every day to pray and seek God’s guidance for your life. Ask Him for wisdom in decision-making and clarity on your purpose.

Bible Study: Regularly read and study God’s Word to gain a deeper understanding of who He is and what He desires for your life.

  • Service: Look for opportunities to serve others and put their needs before your own. This can be as simple as volunteering at a local organization or helping a friend in need.
  • Generosity: Give generously of your time, resources, and finances to bless others and further God’s kingdom.
  • Obedience: Obey God’s commands even when it’s difficult or inconvenient. Trust that His ways are higher than our ways.

Making Jesus the Lord of our lives is not always easy, but it’s worth it. When we submit ourselves to His authority, He transforms us from the inside out and leads us on a path of purpose and fulfillment. So let us daily choose to surrender our lives to Him and follow in His footsteps.
