What Happened to Jesus Forty Days After His Resurrection?

After Jesus’ resurrection, he spent forty days with his disciples before ascending to heaven. This period is known as the ‘Forty Days of Resurrection’. During this time, Jesus appeared to many people and performed many miracles.

The Appearance to Mary Magdalene
On the morning of his resurrection, Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene outside his tomb. She initially mistook him for a gardener but soon recognized him and fell at his feet in worship (John 20:11-18).

Appearance on the Emmaus Road
Later that day, Jesus appeared to two disciples on the road to Emmaus. They did not recognize him at first, but after breaking bread together, their eyes were opened, and they realized it was Jesus (Luke 24:13-35).

Appearance to the Disciples
Jesus also appeared to his disciples several times during these forty days. He showed them the scars on his hands and feet as proof that he had risen from the dead (Luke 24:36-49).

Ascension into Heaven
After spending forty days with his disciples and teaching them about the kingdom of God, Jesus led them out to Bethany, where he blessed them and ascended into heaven (Luke 24:50-53).

This event marks the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry and the beginning of a new era for Christians. The disciples were left in awe and wonder but were also filled with joy knowing that their Lord was now in heaven.

As we reflect on this event today, we are reminded of Jesus’ promise to return one day and take us home with him (John 14:1-3). Until then, we can take comfort in knowing that he is seated at the right hand of God interceding for us (Hebrews 7:25).
