As disciples of Jesus, our mission is to follow in His footsteps and spread the message of His love and salvation to others. This may seem like a daunting task, but with faith and obedience, we can fulfill this mission and make a difference in the world.
What is a disciple?
Before we dive into our mission as disciples of Jesus, let’s first define what it means to be a disciple. A disciple is a follower or student of a teacher or leader. In the case of Christianity, a disciple is someone who follows Jesus Christ and learns from Him.
Jesus gave His disciples a clear mission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20a). This commandment is often referred to as the Great Commission.
Our mission as disciples is to share the Gospel with others, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey all that Jesus has commanded us. This involves not only sharing our faith with those who do not yet believe but also discipling those who have already accepted Christ.
Sharing our faith
Sharing our faith can be intimidating at times, but it’s important to remember that we are simply messengers. We are called to share what God has done in our lives and point others towards Him. As we share our stories with others, we can explain how God’s love has transformed us and offer hope for their own lives.
Remember: It’s not about having all the answers or being an expert theologian. It’s about being willing to share what God has done in your life.
Discipling believers involves teaching them to obey all that Jesus has commanded us. This includes helping them grow in their faith, encouraging them to read the Bible, and guiding them in prayer and worship.
Tip: Find someone who is more spiritually mature than you and ask them to mentor you. Likewise, look for someone who is less spiritually mature than you and offer to disciple them.
Our mission as disciples of Jesus is clear: we are called to share the Gospel with others, baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey all that Jesus has commanded us. As we follow in His footsteps, may we be faithful messengers of His love and salvation.
