What Type of Prayer Did Jesus Teach His Disciples?

As Christians, prayer is an essential part of our daily lives. It is a way for us to communicate with God, express our gratitude, ask for forgiveness, and seek guidance.

But have you ever wondered what type of prayer Jesus taught His disciples? In this article, we will explore the different types of prayer that Jesus taught His followers.

Jesus was a great teacher who imparted many valuable lessons to His disciples during His time on earth. One of the most important things He taught them was how to pray. In fact, in Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus gave His disciples a model prayer which we now know as the Lord’s Prayer.

The Lord’s Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer is a beautiful and powerful prayer that can be used as a template for our own prayers. It begins by acknowledging God as our Father in heaven and giving Him praise and honor.

It then moves on to ask for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven and for our daily needs to be met. The prayer also asks for forgiveness of sins and protection from evil.

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.

Persistent Prayer

In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus teaches about persistent prayer through the parable of the persistent widow. The widow kept going to a judge who did not fear God or care about people, but because of her persistence, he granted her request. Jesus encourages us to keep praying and not give up, even when we do not see immediate results.

Private Prayer

In Matthew 6:5-6, Jesus teaches about the importance of private prayer. He advises us not to pray for the sake of being seen by others but to go into our room and shut the door and pray to our Father who is in secret. This type of prayer is intimate and personal, allowing us to connect with God on a deeper level.

Prayer of Faith

In Mark 11:22-24, Jesus teaches about the power of faith in prayer. He tells His disciples that if they have faith in God and do not doubt in their hearts, they can ask for anything in prayer, and it will be given to them. This type of prayer requires complete trust in God’s ability to answer our prayers.

Jesus taught His disciples many valuable lessons on prayer during His time on earth. From the Lord’s Prayer to persistent prayer, private prayer, and the prayer of faith, we can learn a lot from His teachings. As Christians, let us make it a daily practice to communicate with God through prayer and seek His guidance and strength in all areas of our lives.
