The Last Supper
One of the most significant moments in Jesus’ life was the Last Supper, where he shared a meal with his disciples before his crucifixion. During this meal, Jesus prayed with his disciples. In fact, it is during this prayer that Jesus prophesied about Judas’ betrayal and Peter’s denial.
The prayer that Jesus prayed during the Last Supper is commonly referred to as the “High Priestly Prayer.” This prayer can be found in John 17:1-26. In this prayer, Jesus prays for himself, his disciples, and all believers who would come after them.
Jesus begins by praying for himself, asking that God would glorify him so that he can glorify God. He then goes on to pray for his disciples, asking God to protect them from the evil one and to sanctify them in truth. Finally, Jesus prays for all believers, asking that they would be one just as he and the Father are one.
Another significant moment when Jesus prayed with his disciples was in Gethsemane. After the Last Supper, Jesus went to Gethsemane to pray before he was arrested and taken away to be crucified.
In Matthew 26:36-46, we read about Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane. He takes Peter and two of the other disciples with him and asks them to stay awake while he prays. Jesus tells them that his soul is sorrowful even unto death and asks if it is possible for the cup of suffering to be taken away from him.
Jesus then prays to God, saying “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” This prayer shows Jesus’ humanity and his willingness to submit to God’s plan, even if it meant suffering and death.
Jesus prayed with his disciples during some of the most significant moments in his life. The Last Supper and Gethsemane were both times when Jesus was facing great trials and tribulations, yet he still took the time to pray with those closest to him. These prayers show us the importance of prayer in our own lives and how we can seek comfort and guidance from God in times of trouble.
