Where Did Jesus Disciples Go When Left Jerusalem?

When Jesus left Jerusalem after his crucifixion and resurrection, his disciples were left wondering what to do next. They had followed him faithfully for years, but now he was gone. So where did they go?

The Ascension

After Jesus rose from the dead, he spent 40 days with his disciples, teaching them and preparing them for what was to come. Then, as they watched, he ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9-11). This must have been a stunning sight for the disciples, who had just witnessed their friend and teacher perform countless miracles and rise from the dead.

The Upper Room

After Jesus’ ascension, the disciples went back to Jerusalem and gathered in an upper room (Acts 1:13). They prayed together and waited for the Holy Spirit to come upon them. This is where they chose Matthias to replace Judas as one of the twelve apostles (Acts 1:15-26).

Pentecost

Finally, on the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon them in a powerful way (Acts 2:1-4). They began speaking in different languages and drawing crowds of people who were amazed at what they saw and heard. Peter stood up and preached a powerful sermon about Jesus Christ, which led many people to believe in him that day (Acts 2:14-41).

Spread of Christianity

From there, the disciples spread out across the world to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others. Some went as far as India and Ethiopia.

They faced persecution, imprisonment, and even death for their faith. But they continued to preach boldly because they believed that Jesus was worth it.

  • Thomas went to India
  • Bartholomew went to Armenia
  • Simon the Zealot went to Africa
  • John went to Asia Minor
  • James the Less went to Syria
  • Thaddeus went to Mesopotamia
  • Philip went to Greece

The Legacy of the Disciples

The disciples’ faithfulness and courage changed the world forever. They were instrumental in spreading Christianity throughout the world, and their legacy continues today. Their writings, found in the New Testament, continue to inspire and challenge Christians around the world.

Conclusion

So where did Jesus’ disciples go after he left Jerusalem? They went on a journey that would change their lives forever.

They experienced incredible highs and devastating lows, but through it all they remained faithful to Jesus Christ. May we be inspired by their example and continue to boldly share the good news of Jesus with those around us.
