Who Came Back to Life With Jesus?

One of the most significant events in the Christian faith is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. According to the Bible, Jesus died on the cross and was buried in a tomb.

But on the third day, he rose from the dead and appeared to his followers. However, Jesus was not the only one who came back to life with him. Let’s take a closer look at who else was resurrected with Jesus.

Lazarus

The story of Lazarus is one of the most well-known accounts of resurrection in the Bible. Lazarus was a friend of Jesus who had fallen ill and died before Jesus arrived to heal him. Despite being buried for four days, Jesus called out to Lazarus and he rose from the dead.

John 11:43-44: And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

The Widow’s Son

In Luke 7:11-17, we learn about another person who was brought back to life by Jesus. The son of a widow from Nain had died, and as his body was being carried out for burial, Jesus approached them. He had compassion on the woman and her son and commanded him to rise from the dead.

Luke 7:14-15: And he came and touched [the bier]: and they that bare [him] stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother.

The Saints

In Matthew 27:50-53, we read about an event that occurred at the time of Jesus’ death on the cross. The Bible tells us that the veil of the temple was torn in two, and the earth shook. Additionally, many of the saints who had died were resurrected and appeared to many people in Jerusalem.

Matthew 27:52-53: And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

The Importance of Resurrection

These accounts of resurrection show us that Jesus had power over death. He was able to bring people back to life, demonstrating his divinity and fulfilling prophecies that had been foretold about him.

Additionally, these stories give us hope for our own lives. We too can have eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.

  • We can have peace knowing that death is not the end for us.
  • We can trust in God’s promises that we will be reunited with our loved ones who have passed away.
