Who Did Jesus Raise to Life?

Have you ever wondered who Jesus raised to life during his time on Earth? The Bible records several instances where Jesus performed miraculous acts of resurrection, bringing the dead back to life. Let’s take a closer look at some of these remarkable events.

The Widow’s Son in Nain

One day, Jesus and his disciples were entering a town called Nain when they encountered a funeral procession. A widow was mourning the loss of her only son, who had died suddenly. When Jesus saw the woman’s grief, he had compassion on her and said, “Don’t cry.”

Then he went up to the coffin and touched it, saying, “Young man, I say to you, get up!” Miraculously, the young man sat up and began to speak. The people were amazed and praised God for this incredible miracle.

The Ruler’s Daughter in Capernaum

Another time, a ruler of the synagogue named Jairus came to Jesus begging him to heal his daughter who was dying. As they were on their way to Jairus’ house, messengers arrived with the news that the girl had already died. But Jesus told Jairus not to be afraid and encouraged him to have faith. When they arrived at the house, Jesus took only Peter, James, and John with him into the room where the girl lay.

He took her by the hand and said gently but firmly in Aramaic: “Talitha koum!” which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!” Immediately she stood up and began walking around. Everyone was astonished at this incredible miracle.

Lazarus in Bethany

Perhaps one of the most well-known stories of resurrection is that of Lazarus in Bethany. Lazarus was a close friend of Jesus and his sisters Mary and Martha. When Lazarus fell ill and died, Jesus arrived in Bethany four days later. Martha came out to meet him and said, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”

But Jesus told her that her brother would rise again. When they arrived at the tomb, Jesus commanded the stone to be rolled away. Then he called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” Miraculously, Lazarus emerged from the tomb, still wrapped in grave clothes. The people who witnessed this incredible miracle believed in Jesus.

Conclusion

These three miraculous events are just a few examples of the incredible power of Jesus to bring the dead back to life. They are a testament to his divinity and his compassion for those who were suffering. As we reflect on these stories, may they remind us of the hope that we have in Christ – that one day we too will be raised to eternal life with him.
